How the two games compare
If you play Scrabble, you already know half of it
One shared board
Build off the tiles already there, yours and your opponent’s.
Seven tiles in your rack
Play some, draw back up. Stuck with a bad rack? Swap or pass.
Bonus squares
Grab the good spots before your opponent does, or block them.
Score both ways
Like a letter that makes two words, a tile scores in every line it touches.
In Scrabble you need a word. Here you need a sum.
Every row or column your tiles touch has to add up to exactly 10, and every one of them scores. One move can finish four lines at once, the way a good Scrabble play hooks onto several words.
- No dictionary, no challenges. A move either adds up or it doesn’t, and the game tells you before you play.
- Big numbers aren’t worth more. 9 + 1 scores the same as 5 + 5. A 9 is just harder to place, like a Q.
- Wilds are your blanks. A wild tile plays as any number you like.
Six tiles, four lines, 40 points.
4+5+1, 4+6 and 6+0+4 across; 4+6+0 down.
They’re good at different things
Stick with Scrabble if…
- you love words, anagrams and learning new ones
- you want three or four players around a table
- the thrill of a challenge is half the fun
Try Crazy10s if…
- you’d rather not argue over whether a word counts
- you want to play a friend who speaks another language
- you like a quick bit of mental math
- you want a game waiting in your browser, free
Four tips for Scrabble players
Learn your pairs
1+9, 2+8, 3+7, 4+6 and 5+5 are your two-letter words. Spot them and you’ll always have a move.
Treat 0 like an S
A 0 slips onto the end of a finished line without changing its total.
Save wilds for a big move
Like a blank, a wild is worth most when it finishes several lines at once.
Bridge the gaps
Your tiles can join up through tiles already on the board, like hooking onto a word that’s there.
Crazy10s for Scrabble players
Is Crazy10s basically Scrabble with numbers?
Pretty much. The shared board, the seven-tile rack and the bonus squares will feel familiar. The big change: instead of spelling words, every line you touch has to add up to exactly 10.
Do I need to be good at math?
If you can add up to 10, you can play. The game shows your points before you play a move.
Is Crazy10s free?
Yes. It plays in your browser with nothing to download, and you can start as a guest without an account.
Can I play against the computer?
Yes, at Easy, Medium or Hard. There’s also a Practice mode where you play both sides.
Can three or four people play?
Not yet. Crazy10s is a game for two players.
